POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP ON PLANT FUNCTIONAL GENOMICS

CENTER OF GENOMIC SCIENCES, NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF MÉXICO

The group of Prof. Georgina Hernández head of the Research Program of Functional Genomics of Eukaryotes from the Center of Genomic Sciences (CCG) – National University of Mexico (UNAM) located in Cuernavaca, Mexico (70 kms south of Mexico city) is seeking candidates for a POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP in functional genomics of legume plants.

The fellowship will start on March, 2020. It is awarded for one year with possible renewal for a second year (only).

Applicants must be young scientists who have obtained their PhD degree maximum 5 years (February, 2015 or after) before starting their postdoctoral stay at UNAM.

The postdoctoral fellow will develop a research project about the biological relevance of Alternative Splicing (AS) events from common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) related to the rhizobia symbiosis (Symbiotic Nitrogen Fixation). Our projects about these theme -derived from previous work: Iñiguez et al. BMC Genomics, 2017, 18:650- aim to functionally characterize selected AS events that, based in bioinformatic predictions, show differential expression in common bean nodules as compared to other organs/plant conditions thus such AS events are hypothesized as part of novel gene expression regulatory mechanisms for the SNF process.

The postdoctoral fellowship includes the equivalent to ca. $1,800 US Dlls per month, medical insurance, air tickets to/from Mexico. In addition CCG offers FREE housing for post-docs in the Visiting Professors Residence, located in campus few meters from the labs. A studio including private bath, kitchenette and utilities (gas, electricity, water, laundry free of charge) is offered to each postdoc.

Interested candidates should e-mail their complete Curriculum vitae, 2-3 references, a statement of research interests and contact information to: Prof Georgina Hernández (gina@ccg.unam.mx), not later than JULY 1st, 2019. The selected applicant will be contacted by Prof. Hernandez who will inform him/her about the requirements for the official Postdoctoral Fellowship Applications at UNAM.
